Geraldine Hakewill to star in dark musical comedy 'The Rise and Fall of Little Voice'

Geraldine Hakewill to star alongside Caroline O’Connor in THE RISE AND FALL OF LITTLE VOICE by Jim Cartwright at The Darlinghurst Theatre Company

‘In 1992, a new star was born in London theatre. Jane Horrocks, best known as Bubble from Absolutely Fabulous, starred in Jim Cartwright's The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, picking up ecstatic reviews and an Olivier Award nomination.

Now it's Geraldine Hakewill's turn to take on the role of Little Voice, a shy young woman living in a northern English town, who comes to life when she imitates the voices of the extraordinary divas she's listened to on her records.

Hakewill will be joined by Australian musical theatre royalty, Caroline O'Connor, who'll play the role of Mari, Little Voice's mother looking for love. But that search ends up bringing something else to their family: a shot at stardom.

Shaun Rennie – who started his career as a musical theatre performer but has quickly risen as a talented director in recent years – will be helming a production that he's promising is for the 21st century. And yes, there'll be showtunes.’ - Time Out
